Who We Are
Arwel Barn stands in the beautiful village of Maenclochog overlooking extensive farmland and the Preseli Hills.
In the spring of 2023, Alli and Nick set out to find a new home in South Wales to be closer to their daughter and new grandchild. After viewing countless properties, they stumbled upon Arwel - a house slightly outside their search area and in need of a great deal of love. But from the moment they stepped inside, they knew it was something special. The house was full of history and character, and after one viewing, they made an offer. The rest, as they say, is history.
One of the biggest draws of this ambitious restoration project was the little stone barn tucked away in the back garden. Originally intended to become guest accommodation, Alli soon found herself captivated by the life it already held - swallows, swifts, and even a barn owl had made it their home. She couldn’t bring herself to disturb them. Instead, plans shifted, and the barn’s enclosed upper floor was chosen as a future crafting and workspace, overlooking the neighbouring farm.
There, surrounded by countryside and accompanied by her loyal rescue dog, Doris, Alli began creating candles, diffusers, and melts - often while mending a few toddler clothes along the way. Though renovations on the main house have taken longer than expected (don’t they always?), the barn remains a peaceful lookout for Doris and the heart of inspiration behind Arwel Barn Candles - a place where craft, comfort, and a love of home come together.
